If you have a little girl, chances are it's been a little chilly in your house. So chilly that you've found snowflakes inside and the floors nearly FROZEN over. And you've probably discovered that you have this nagging itch to build a snowman...or at least sing about it. Sound familiar?
If so, then you'll feel right at home reading about the Frozen themed birthday party requested by our first little princess. On her sixth birthday, Elise donned her Elsa crown and cape, posed with a nose-less Olaf and got ready to celebrate.
Her birthday banner hung below "snow" covered twinkle lights...
the table flickered and sparkled, set with tea lights and snowflake confetti...
and giant snowflakes adorned the windows.
Just like Olaf's own personal flurry, snowflakes hovered just over the cake on the buffet table. Inspired by this snowflake chandelier, I created the one here with an embroidery hoop, sheer ribbon, embroidery floss and lots and lots of paper snowflakes.
In the spirit of our "Frozen" theme, we served rice snow...
and blue Jell-o ice blocks.
After dinner we played Pin the Nose on Olaf
and, lucky for Olaf, at least one person got it in the right place!
After games it was time for cake.
After watching a myriad of tutorials on how to make a "Frozen" cake, this one appeared to be the most manageable for my amateur cake-decorating skills. So I pulled out my white chocolate candy melts and started creating snowflakes and swirls. The snowflake didn't quite make the transfer from counter to cake in one piece, but chocolate, sprinkles and frosting are forgiving.
The inside revealed surprise layers of white, purple and blue (although not nearly as neat as the cake that inspired the multi-colored layers...her layers are perfect!)
The birthday girl blew out six candles,
was served the first slice of cake,
and spent the rest of the evening celebrating with family and friends.
Happy birthday, sweet Elise! You have a beautiful tender heart and are full of spirit. Our family wouldn't be the same without you and we are eternally grateful for the gift you are.
