Like Father

We've all heard the idioms ascribed to children that are just like their parents:

the apple doesn't fall far from the tree
:::
a chip off the old block
:::
like father like son

Sometimes it's for reasons pertaining to physical appearance. You know, things like sporting the same mustache...

or pirate get-up...

or pretty much being your dad's clone.

And sometimes it's for other reasons. Things like a tender heart, a thoughtful spirit or maybe even a short temper {not that any of our children would get that from their parents, especially their mother...ahem}

Most of us could think of a laundry list of things we get from our parents {good or bad, intentional or not} that would make people say of us "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

But what about our heavenly Father? Would people say of us, "like Father like son"? Scripture tells us to be like Him:

But just as he who called you is holy,
so be holy in all you do;
for it is written,
"Be holy, because I am holy."
1 Peter 1:15-16

Our children are incredibly blessed to have a daddy who loves God with all his heart, mind, soul and strength. A daddy who strives to be like his Heavenly Father. A daddy who is patient and gentle, who humbly teaches and guides. A model of what it means to be a servant leader. An example of a godly husband and father for our boys and our girls. A daddy who loves them unconditionally and tells them so.

And they love him back...

Happy father's day to my kids' amazing daddy!

School's Out

This year we started a tradition of the girls waving out the window to the boys as they drove off for school each morning. Who knew that a wave would become so important? But it is an essential part of the morning for all four of the kids.

Today marked the last opportunity to wave goodbye for a few months because we're waving goodbye to second grade and kindergarten.

And it's a good thing because our supplies are running low...

and we're looking forward to a replenishing summer.
